UK’s CMA has reportedly opened a wide ranging review into the regulation of the digital market, making it tougher for technology giants from sharing user data between their apps and making it tougher for them to acquire smaller rivals. It has launched the review in response to growing concern about the market power of sites such as Facebook and Google, and whether they are harming competition by creating barriers to new entrants.
As a part of the review, the CMA would also be assessing how Facebook and Google are able to collect and use personal data, making it easier for them to compete in digital advertising. The regulator will also probe tech giants for fake online reviews and monitor the conduct of price comparison websites.
