National Medical Devices Promotion Council to be set up
The Govt. is likely to set up National Medical Devices Promotion Council under DIPP to boost medical device sector, headed by Secretary- DIPP and representatives from health care industry and quality control institutions.
The manufacturing and trade in Medical Devices Industry (MDI) is growing steadily in double digits which includes a wide range of products.
The Council’s objectives/activities are:
- To act as facilitating/promotion & developmental body for MDI;
- To hold periodic seminars, workshops etc. to garner views of industry and deliberate on parameters for industrial and trade policies;
- To identify redundant processes and render technical assistance to agencies and dept(s);
- To enable entry of emerging interventions and support certifications for manufacturers;
- To support dissemination/ documentation of international norms and standards for medical devices;
- To drive a robust and dynamic Preferential Market Access (PMA) policy;
- To undertake validation of LLPs etc. within MDI sector;
