MeitY has released draft Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules, 2025 for public consultation for implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Simple language, unnecessary cross referencing, contextual definition, and illustrations etc. have been used in the rules. The Rules include provisions like cross-border data flow, parental consent for using children’s data, new obligations for data fiduciaries etc. Penalties upto Rs 250 crore can be levied on data fiduciaries in case of personal data breach.
