India's GDP likely to grow 7.4% this year, 7.6% in 2019-20: UN

According to United Nations' World Economic Situation and Prospects 2019 report, Indian economy is expected to grow 7.4% this year and 7.6 % in 2019-20, before tapering down to 7.4 % in 2020-21.

India's growth continues to be underpinned by robust private consumption, a more expansionary fiscal stance and benefits from earlier reforms.

  • There is a consensus about India being poised on 7.4-7.5% GDP growth rate
  • Revival of private investment could help push  growth trajectory above 8%

On global economic prospects, it was reported that it would continue to grow at a steady pace of around 3% in 2019 and 2020, after expanding by 3.1%in 2019, amid signs that growth has peaked.
