The 'Digital India' programme, being politics-neutral, center-state-neutral and ideology-neutral has resulted in large-scale adoption of digital technology as India marches towards becoming $1trn digital economy in next 2-3 yrs.
The reliance was on low-cost technology as evidenced by spread of digital identity through 'Aadhar'.
The boost in number of smartphones, component manufacturing factories and optical fibre network were some examples of adoption of digital technology in India.
The Govt. is also pushing for $1 trn digital economy that includes telecommunication, information technology, e-commerce, electronics, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things and the target is achievable in 3-4 yrs, and will create employment for 50-75 lakh people.
It will focus on manufacturing of medical and defence electronics, and scaling up manufacturing capacity of automobile electronics.
The Secy, Ministry of Electronics & IT said that National Policy on Electronics is in offing soon.
