Final regulations on e-pharmacy likely by month-end: DGCI

According to Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI), Govt. is expected to come out with final regulations on sale of drugs by e-pharmacy by month-end, aiming accessibility to genuine drugs from authentic portals only.

The Govt. has also examined comments from stakeholders on draft regulations which were released in September by Ministry of Health on sale of drugs by e-pharmacies.

Currently, there are no regulations for such entities.

The Regulations will also help investors to understand risk and benefits of investing in the sector.

The market size of retail and online sale of medicines is about Rs 1.2 lakh crore and Rs. 3,500 crore respectively. It is expected to increase to Rs. 25,000 crore in next 3-4 years.
