Department of Telecommunication approves National Telecom Policy
DoT approved the National Digital Communications Policy 2018, which is likely to create new jobs and getting investments of more than $100 bn in India by 2022. The policy is now destined to head to Cabinet for final approval.
The Policy aims to-
- Restrict ISPs from discriminating against Internet content. Categories of ‘critical’ Services such as remote healthcare diagnostics, self-driving cars and some financial services are out of their ambit.
- Traffic prioritization to foster 5G.
- Imposition of Penalty for violating license rules on net neutrality.
- Installation of 12.5 lakh Wi-fi hotspot in all gram panchayats.
