India produces nearly 290 million tonnes of iron ore annually, making it the fourth-largest producer globally. Iron ore accounts for 70% of the total MCDR mineral production by value. About a quarter of production is in the form of high-value material like lumps, while the balance is fines, a significant portion of which fall below 58% Fe - a measure of iron content that determines ore quality.
